Jane Evans, Chair of OCTIA
I am a BACP senior accredited counsellor and director of OCST (Online Counselling Services & Training). I first began working online, supporting others to engage remotely with their clients and service users back in 2004. I have been an organising member of OCTIA since its conception 11 years ago and also served a 7-year term with the ACTO (Association for Counselling & Therapy Online) executive. During the last 15 years, my passion for promoting online counselling and online supervision has been predominantly focused around my professional online practice and delivering training programmes for online counselling and supervision. You can learn more about me at OCST.
Listening to people has been part of my world for most of my working life (customer service and HR). Shortly after setting up in private practice following qualifying as a counsellor in Edinburgh, I moved to Italy with my partner in 2017, a challenging life change. The move spurred me to investigate online work, to me a hitherto unknown world. I'm passionate about supporting people to connect with themselves, and about the healthy possibilities of being outside in nature. Get to know more about me and how I work at LucyHydeTherapy.
I have enjoyed working in the private, public, and university sectors, and am BACP senior accredited both as a counsellor and supervisor, an NCS senior accredited registrant, and hold professional membership with ACTO. My interest in online therapy grew with the realisation of how stunningly effective it can be, and how it widens access to those who would otherwise find it difficult. I enjoy offering therapy and supervision via secure platforms using video, Instant Message, email, and audio. Read about my practice at Patricia Morris Counselling.
My initial background is in Psychology and during my Masters I explored boundaries to help-seeking and the usefulness of online access. This led to my training with Relate, starting with relationship therapy but also completing a certificate in online counselling.
I currently have a busy schedule working face to face in private practice, as a relationship therapist and working with sex addiction. In addition I spend a large portion of my time working as an online counsellor through the Relate national live chat service and the email a counsellor service. I also deliver training programmes for online and other therapy services as course director and course tutor at the Therapy Institute. Find out more about me at Cedars Sex & Relationship Therapy.
I am a Relate trained counsellor and prior to qualifying in online counselling in 2004 worked in private practice. I am one of the pioneers of Relate’s ‘email a counsellor’ service and continued to work for Relate until 2017. Since 2010 I have been a tutor for Online Training for Counsellors (OLT).
I have been part of OCTIA’s organising committee since its inception in 2010 and feel very passionate that Online Counselling is acknowledged as a counselling platform that requires formal training. I have also served on the ACTO executive committee.
My interests include travel with my camper van, gardening and happy snapping.
I am an integrative therapist and sex therapist, and have worked with Relate, NHS, and the Army for 33 years. I work in private practice and am Course Director at the Therapy Institute. For 28 years, I trained counsellors and sex therapists for Relate, and currently supervise a team of therapists working with military personnel in Western Europe using webcam, telephone, email, and instant messaging .
I have worked online for nearly 20 years, after online training with Vancouver University. I offer training and supervision of online work and worked on setting up Relate’s digital services. I have contributed a chapter on Supervising online work with couples in a recent book. You can find out more about me by visiting Cedars Sex & Relationship Therapy.
I am an Online Counsellor also offering face to face (in-person) sessions. I specialise in promoting an understanding of sleep, sleep disorders and supporting sleep related education.
I have a background in working for a mental health charity in the roles of counsellor, mentor and Chairperson. I have also worked as a boarding housemistress supporting girls between the ages 8 years to 20 years. I became involved in OCTIA in 2018 after completing a diploma in online counselling.
